One of the most famous Formula One cars of all-time.

The car in which James Hunt won the dramatic 1976 Formula One World Championship and in which Gilles Villeneuve made his Formula One debut at the 1977 British Grand Prix.

Originally used by the then World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi in 1975, who would go on to finish second in that year’s championship before being used by Hunt in the following year.

The 1976 Championship turned out to be one of the most legendary seasons in the history of Formula One. Niki Lauda, the champion from the previous year was piloting the very reliable and super quick Ferrari 312 T. Early in the season Ferrari had a commanding lead before Hunt in this particular chassis won the controversial Spanish Grand Prix and would go on to win in France, Germany, Holland, Canada and the USA which forced the Championship down to the decider in Japan.

Hunt famously sealed a 3rd place finish in this car in torrential conditions to pip Lauda by just 1 point in the Championship and win one of the closest contested and famous championships of all-time.

McLaren sold the car in 1978 to a Mr Hartley Jnr (nothing to do with our good selves) and was later re-sold to famed Ferrari collector Albert Obrist before joining the Bernie Ecclestone Grand Prix collection in the early 1990s.

McLaren royalty and a celebrity amongst Grand Prix cars.
