Introduced in 2018, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider was the open-top counterpart to the acclaimed 488 Pista and represented the ultimate evolution of the 488 platform. At its heart sits Ferrari’s 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8, producing 710 bhp and 770 Nm of torque. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 2.85 seconds and reaches a top speed of 211 mph.
The Pista, meaning ‘track’ in Italian, was developed using technology derived directly from Ferrari’s 488 GTE and 488 Challenge racing programmes. Extensive weight saving, revised aerodynamics and sophisticated vehicle dynamics resulted in a significantly more focused car, while Ferrari’s innovative S-Duct and numerous aerodynamic developments substantially increased downforce compared with the standard 488.
Following in the lineage of highly regarded models such as the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale, the 488 Pista represented the next generation of Ferrari’s most focused mid-engined V8 models. The Pista Spider added another dimension to that formula and today stands as one of the most desirable open-top Ferraris of its generation.
Unveiled at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the 488 Pista Spider also marked an important milestone as the 50th open-top model in Ferrari history. Produced in considerably smaller numbers than its coupé counterpart, it combined the uncompromising performance and engineering of Ferrari’s Special Series philosophy with the added theatre of a retractable hardtop.
