The McLaren P1 is one of the most important performance cars of the modern era. Unveiled in 2012 as part of McLaren’s Ultimate Series, the P1 represented a bold leap into hybrid hypercar territory and formed part of the revered ‘Holy Trinity’ of next-generation performance cars, alongside the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918. This example is car 94 of just 375 units produced worldwide, making the P1 not only the rarest of the three but also a true collector’s piece that showcases McLaren’s cutting-edge technology and Formula 1 expertise.
Named after ‘Position 1’ in Formula One, the P1 reflects McLaren’s ambition to lead both on the road and the track. It is built around a lightweight carbon fibre MonoCage chassis, weighing just 90 kg. The P1 is capable of delivering instantaneous electric torque with internal combustion intensity. Its hybrid powertrain produces a combined 903 bhp (727 bhp from its twin-turbocharged V8 and 176 bhp from the electric motor), propelling it from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 217 mph. To manage its immense power the car features carbon ceramic brakes for outstanding stopping performance and active aerodynamics capable of producing up to 600 kg of downforce in Race mode. Each corner is controlled by McLaren’s advanced Race Chassis Control system, using active dampers to continuously optimise handling and ride quality. Borrowing directly from F1 technology, the P1 is also equipped with a Drag Reduction System (DRS) to reduce rear wing drag for improved straight-line speed, and an Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) that delivers a rapid burst of electric power on demand.
This particular example, chassis 094, was specified new with the following factory options: Elite exterior paint Chrome Titanium (McLaren’s highest standard of factory-applied finishes costing £55,386.73), Stealth Pack (Stealth badge set, black exhaust pipe, standard heat shield), front bumper in Silver and gloss carbon fibre, visual carbon fibre side LTR exit ducts, visual gloss carbon fibre rear clam inserts, gloss carbon fibre rear bumper, gloss carbon fibre splitter, gloss carbon fibre side skirt, gloss carbon fibre diffuser, silver and gloss carbon fibre door mirror and arm, side panel in silver and gloss carbon fibre, carbon fibre roof snorkel intake, rear wing in silver and visual carbon fibre, full Alcantara interior in carbon black, racing seats, carbon fibre seat backs, carbon black Alcantara steering wheel, carbon black Alcantara seat outer, carbon black Alcantara seat inner, Harissa red contrast stitching, carbon black Alcantara facia/door insert, Meridian surround sound system, branded floor mats, stealth lightweight wheels, carbon ceramic brakes with red callipers and parking sensors front and rear.
