At the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini were ready to unveil the very first production supercar to the world. Not only was the Miura the first production mid-engine supercar, it was also the world’s fastest production car at the time of its release, boasting 350 bhp from its transversely mounted 60-degree V12 and a five-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. The model was given the designation ‘P400’ — ‘P’ for ‘Posteriore’ (rear), 400 for its 4-litre engine.

Two years into production, Lamborghini introduced the P400 S: the same Gandini-penned Bertone silhouette sharpened in detail, with output lifted to a claimed 370 bhp, matched to wider tyres and uprated brakes for genuine gains in usability without disturbing the raw character that made the original so compelling. Production ran to just 338 examples between 1968 and 1971, and it is the S that many collectors regard as the sweet spot in the Miura line.

The ‘S’ stands for ‘Spinto’ — Italian for ‘tuned’ or ‘pushed’ — meaning a more powerful and refined version of the original Miura P400.

Chassis 4039 is one such example, completed on 17 April 1969 and delivered new to Italy through Lamborauto of Turin. It was finished in the striking colour combination of Argento Indianapolis over a Nero/Beige interior — only 19 of the 338 P400 S examples built left the factory in this silver, and 4039 was the sole example of this precise combination delivered new to Italy that year.

Fresh from a near four-year restoration, carried out without regard to cost by marque and model experts Cremonini Carrozzeria in its homeland. It boasts a full matching number status as confirmed by its recently awarded Lamborghini Polo Storico certification.

An amazing opportunity to acquire a Miura in a sophisticated original colour combination and one that is ready to  present at any of the world’s leading Concours d’Elegance.
