In 1993 Porsche announced what would become their incredibly successful Type 964 Carrera RSR 3.8 that was specifically designed to compete in the 1994 European Pro GT and North American Supercar Series. Its power came from a naturally aspirated, air-cooled, six-cylinder 3.8-litre Type 64/04 engine with twin ignition, individual butterfly valves for each cylinder and Bosch electronic fuel injection. This engine produced an official output of 325 bhp, however, in reality the output was at least 375 bhp. A five speed manual gearbox was mounted, as was a racing clutch. The body shells were constructed on the standard 964 assembly line before being sent to Matter for the installation of full roll cages.

The seam-welded body shells featured light-alloy doors and front lid with a steel engine cover that could support the large fibreglass rear wing. The model also had lightweight front and rear bumper fascias plus lighter and thinner side and rear windows. Internally, there was a single Recaro bucket seat with a six-point racing harness and a fire-suppression system. Overall, the RSR 3.8 had a dry weight of a mere 2,673 pounds. This aerodynamically efficient shape coupled with the powerful engine propelled the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and gave it a top speed of 181 mph.

The RSR 3.8 dominated both European and American racing series with wins at the 1994 1000km of Spa, a class win at Le Mans plus a first place finish at the 1000km of Interlagos in Brazil. In North America, the model had exceptional performances at renowned races such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. In total, there were 51 Carrera RSR 3.8s produced yet only 11 of these were supplied to North America. The 964 RSR 3.8 was an astonishing success for Porsche and is today one of the most sought after 911 variants.

Chassis 496079 is 1 of the 11 examples supplied to North America and it was delivered new to Jochen Rohr of ROHR Corporation on the 4th November 1993. It was finished in Grand Prix White as documented in the authoritative book ‘Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8’ by world-renowned Porsche experts Jürgen Barth, Norbert Franz and Robert Weber. The car boasts a very impressive North American racing history, which includes a three-time entry to the 24 Hours of Daytona and a four-time entry to the 12 Hours of Sebring where it scored a podium in its inaugural race. It campaigned successfully until 2000 before going into private ownership.

In 2017 the car was road converted and UK road registered. The conversion was carried out by Porsche specialists BS Motorsport. It comes complete with a well-documented history file, which includes its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and Porsche Letter of Origin, a recent report carried out by a marque expert and parts to return the car to full race specification.
